Monsters
Avars
- Rain forest/Jungle based.
- Visual
- Graceful; elegant as both a monster type, an NPC type, and (possibly
in the long term future) a PC face type.
- Needs to be separatable into two clans, by color translation on some
key part of their body.
- 'Hand' with some sort of opposable digit. Hand must be capable of starting
a fire, firing a bow, making a spear, and using magic, but does not need
to be more human-like than that.
- Culture
- Primitive Speech
- Oral Culture used to keep a rough and somewhat superstitious history
- Clanish
- Capable of discrimination (exiling someone who is different), but not
necessarily capable of 'justice'.
- Technology
- Mud Architecture. Stones may be utilized very basic
- Extremely basic toolmaking ability (requires a hand with some sort
of opposable digit)
- Ability to make fire.
- Basic magic/ritual
- Stats
- Good in karma (20).
- 80th level (tougher than a skeleton, easier than a troll, will usually
be in greater numbers). This is a very tough monster, when riled up.
- Non-aggressive to humans.
- Three types of avars
- Avar (level 80). Needs walking, standing, and fighting animations,
corpse view.
- Avar Shaman (level 100). Needs walking, standing, fighting, and spellcasting
animations, corpse view.
- Avar Chieftain (level 135). Needs walking, standing, fighting and bow-firing
animations, corpse view.
DragonFly
- Visual
- Cute, 'pet' dragon, somewhat newtlike, floating on gossamer, dragonfly
like wings.
- DragonFly must have the capacity to look neutral, loyal, and vicious.
- Needs resting (on ground), hovering, flying, and attacking (with poison
projectile), corpse view.
- Should be color translateable into two different kinds of dragonflies
(theoretically red and blue).
- Stats
- Level 60 (tougher than a scorpion or spider). Blue dragonfly level
80 (tougher than a skeleton, easier than a troll).
- Neutral Karma (0).
- Fights with a green spitting projectile, which has a range of 5 paces.
AI tries to use this weapon out of range of humans, who have a range
of 2 paces, and tries to lead opponents towards others of it's kind.
- Projectile poisons, as well as doing 60 points of damage.
- Non-aggressive, unless you are in it's nest.
- Blue dragonfly will become your pet if you feed it a meatpie.
Kriipa (the monster formerly known as Monster X - awaiting better
name suggestions)
- Visual
- A small, spindly legged creature with a huge, perpetually grinning
smile, a powerful tail, razor-sharp claws on the ends of long but thin
arms.
- Lives in the canopy (up on the cieling) most of the time. Scuttles
across the canopy, then drops down to the ground. Once on the ground, it
propels itself at (through) it's foe, using claws to do damage. Typically,
it then springs back into the foliage.
- Uses tail for propelling itself, both at it's prey and also back into
the canopy.
- Animations: Resting (upside down in Canopy), Walking (upside down in
Canopy), Falling to ground, Pouncing, Springing back up, Corpse.
- The color of the canopy(?) where it hides most of the time.
- Stats
- Level 100 (Tougher than a Troll.)
- Does more damage per attack than any other creature, but attacks are
less frequent.
- Evil (karma -20).
- Very aggressive.
- Mindset
- Mindlessly ruthless. Attacks anything living.
Orc
- Caverns/mines based
- Visual
- Ugly, but has a certain individual (charming) characteristic that allows
us to consider making orc NPCs someday.
- Evolved from pigs, but far enough along that they are capable of doing
things like a more civilized people
- 'Hand' with padded fingertips and some sort of opposable digit. Hand
must be capable of starting a fire, swinging a pick-axe, crafting armor,
stitching clothing, and crafting both mining tools and magic staves.
- Culture
- Primitive Speech
- True to themselves and other orcs.
- Hates humans. Fears shadowbeasts.
- Technology
- Mining technology. They mine for gems, nerudite, iron and fungi.
- Fairly advanced toolmaking ability.
- Clothed creatures. Wears bone, leather and crudely stitched cloth.
- Ability to make fire.
- Understanding of heirarchical leadership.
- Stats
- Good in karma (20).
- Non-aggressive to humans.
- Four types of orcs
- Orc (level 45). These are the orcs that are found in the outside world
(and are referred to by the design team sometimes as 'forest orcs). Needs
walking, standing, and fighting animations, corpse view.
- Cave Orc (level 70). Poorly garbed, cowardly, not very intelligent.
These orcs do most of the work in the underground orc society. When threatened,
they tend to find allies and defend each other with their working implements
(crudely hewn pickaxes). Needs walking, standing, and swing pickaxe/fighting,
corpse view.
- Orc Wizard(level 90). These orcs have risen to power because they are
the only ones who can handle the shadowbeasts which hunt the Orc Warrens.
They have two spells, blinding flash and groundbolt. Needs walking, standing,
fighting and strike-ground-with-staff animations, corpse view.
- Orc Overlord (level 175). This creature is tougher than a yeti. He
is a bit larger and quicker than a typical orc, and has a two-scimitar
attack. Can call orcs to his aid if he needs to. Needs walking, standing,
and fighting animations, corpse view and head item (ground, inventory and
look views).
Shadowbeast
- Lives in caverns/mines.
- Visual
- A grotesque version of the Kriipa (monsterX), created by some freakish
magical/genetic experiment by the Mad Wizard on Konima's Island. Has same
grossly large, freakishly grinning head, but tail is less important due
to the difficulty in jumping underground. Instead, has strong back legs,
and hugely developed front claws. Shambles around on all fours (perhaps
walks on back of hands to protect claws?), but moves very quickly.
- Dark grey in color, glowing red eyes, transparent and difficult to
see. Side power is to make the room darker when they are in it, making
them even more difficult to see.
- Needs standing, walking, fighting, corpse view.
- No eyelids.
- Quick.
- Stats
- Level 125 (tougher than a Lupogg, but not supermonster class yet).
Does less damage per attack than his natural brother, but attacks frequently.
Tend to be loners.
- Evil (karma -50).
- History/Mindset
- Preys on orcs, which alternatively prey on it, for food.
- Clever without being intelligent. Orcs are terrified by their sneakiness.
- Loners.
- The result of a mad experiment on the island. It is unclear if the
architect of the Shadowbeast created the monster for fun, to eradicate
the orcs, or just as a first effort before trying more daring and noble
things with the Dragonflies.
Lupogg King
- Sewer based. In a room yet to be designed, which connects Jasper Sewers
with Barloque Sewers.
- Visual
- Large sewer/swamp monster.
- Twice as tall as a human.
- Has key attributes shared with Lupogg
- Similiar skin color
- Eyestalks
- Mouth shape
- Possibly has four or six legs instead of two. These may be stunted,
since the Lupogg King has grown so fat that he cannot leave his central
chamber.
- Possibly has tiny (T.Rex style) arms.
- Either lots of little tongues, or slime coming out of mouth.
- Animations: resting, wading, spitting, chomping, corpse view.
- Should have 'supermonster' feel.
- Stats
- Good in karma (20).
- 250th level (toughest monster to date).
- Attack style is to paralyze whoever it is fighting. Key to defeating
is to make it switch targets after it paralyzes your bud. Paralyze attack
is a projectile, to prevent it from being fireballable.
- Slow moving, but mobile.
